  Internship Work-Study Programs

Strategic Communications, LLC offers two Internship Work-Study Programs:

Government and Public Relations Program - Washington, D.C.

Public Relations Program - Syracuse, NY

The Government and Public Relations Internship Work-Study Program at SCLLC offers a $3,500 stipend to one Washington, D.C. graduate student or strong undergraduate candidate in his or her junior or senior year, for a part-time work-study program for the spring 2012 semester.

Requirements:

  1. Completed at least sophomore year of college by June 2011 
  2. Currently enrolled in Political Science/Government, Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration, or similar field of study
  3. Academic or internship experience with energy issues highly valued
  4. Legislative or government internship experience strongly preferred

From January to May 2012, the student will need to commit approximately twenty (20) hours per week, for work to be completed at SCLLC’s downtown Washington, D.C. office (Metro-accessible). 

Duties:

  1. Participate in monthly staff meetings (in-person or via phone call) to discuss status and needs of various projects for current SCLLC clients.
  2. Research regulatory and legislative issues of interest to clients at the state and federal levels.
  3. Monitor news and social media activity for select clients, including energy market restructuring, consumer education, smart grid development, new nuclear construction, clean energy financing, and export promotion.
  4. Monitor news and information sources for key policy developments.
  5. Provide regular written summaries of developments on assigned issues, including policy papers and panel discussions, for SCLLC staff.
  6. Support major PR/government relations projects related to education of energy consumers.
  7. Assist with research and development of specific components of communications plans and documents for clients.
  8. Make recommendations for proactive and reactive communications and actions based upon monitored news, policy, and social media activity.

The Public Relations Internship Work-Study Program at Strategic Communications, LLC offers a $5,000 stipend to one Central New York college student for a full-year, part-time, work study program.


Requirements:

  1. Completed at least sophomore year of college by June 2012
  2. Currently enrolled in Public Relations, Journalism, Social Media or similar field of study
  3. Experience with Vocus, Cision, or similar software/program

From June 2012 to May 2013, the student will need to commit approximately ten (10) hours per week, for work to be completed Monday-Friday mornings. After an introductory period, many tasks may be completed remotely (from your dorm, apartment, library, etc.).


Duties:

  1. Participate in monthly staff meetings (in-person or via phone call) to discuss status and needs of various communications for current SCLLC clients.
  2. Assess/coordinate traditional and social media monitoring for all clients, including determination of keywords and applicable news stories about current and potential clients as well as stories relevant to specific clients and/or client industries.
  3. Compile top news stories about and relevant to SCLLC’s client work and provide to all staff at the beginning of each day to help team stay informed and make best decisions with client work.
  4. Use software distribution system to identify target media contacts for proactive news releases/media alerts, etc.
  5. Assist with the development of draft communications documents (letters, news releases, etc.)
  6. Use software distribution system to distribute news release(s) and other communications to target media contacts, and track resulting media coverage.
  7. Make recommendations for proactive and reactive communications based upon monitored traditional and social media coverage.
